Frequently Asked Questions

A. ALERT ME is a mass notification tool that enables the University to communicate urgent notification announcements to students, faculty, and staff.

A. ALERT ME will communicate to subscribers’ cell phones brief text messages—up to 160 characters—that relate to circumstances and/or conditions that may alter or interrupt normal campus operations. Subscribers who receive ALERT ME messages will be instructed to go to the Purdue Northwest home page for more details about the alert.

A. No one can predict when a campus emergency will occur, or where you will be when it happens. If you have a cell phone, ALERT ME text messages will provide urgent, time-sensitive information directly to you 24/7, whatever your location.

A. Any student, faculty and staff member can register up to three phone numbers to receive ALERT ME text messages.

A. No, but should they choose to do so, students can include a parent’s cell phone number(s) among the three numbers they may register to receive ALERT ME text messages. Also, the University home page will report messages announced via ALERT ME.

A. Enrollment cost nothing. The cost of receiving ALERT ME text messages is contingent on the text messaging agreement you have with your cellular provider.

A. Campus administrative leadership will do so.

A. The Purdue Northwest website is intended to be the most current and comprehensive source of critical information. Additionally, Northwest Indiana and Chicago radio & TV stations will report when our campus operations are interrupted. Purdue Northwest campus community also will be informed via public address announcements within buildings, on electronic message boards, and through use of various signage.

A. Although a case can be made for various other text messaging services, the ALERT ME service, we believe, best satisfies our objective of subscribers receiving crucial Purdue Northwest messages in a timely manner.

A. Please visit the GET RAVE website.

  • Your user name is: Purdue Career Account username
  • Your password is: Purdue Career Account password
  • Enter your cell number when prompted without the dashes between numbers.
  • You will be sent a text with your confirmation code. Enter this code.

A. There are two ways to stop receiving ALERT ME text messages:

  1. Text STOP to 67283 or 226787 from your registered mobile phone.
  2. Delete the phone using the delete button provided within the Mobile Phones section of the My Account tab

A. Yes. To enter your mobile phone, visit the My Account tab, and click the Add button within the Mobile Contacts module

A. Visit the My Account tab, and click the Edit button next to the mobile number you would like to change. Enter the new mobile number you want to use in the fields provided, and click Continue.

When changing Mobile Contact (1) [your primary mobile number], you will receive a text message containing a 4-digit confirmation code. You must enter this confirmation code within this website to complete the primary mobile phone registration process.

A. If you do not receive the confirmation code within a couple of minutes, click the Confirm button on the My Account page, and the Click here to resend now link provided on the Enter Confirmation Code page. If you still fail to receive the confirmation text message, click the edit button on the My Account page that is associated with Mobile Contact (1), and confirm your mobile number and carrier are correct. Make changes as necessary.

If you do not receive a confirmation text message after following the above steps, your mobile carrier may be enforcing a text messaging block on your account. Contact your carrier and ask that messages from short codes 67283 and 226787 to be delivered to your mobile device.
