Change Your Major

Looking to change your major? The Change of Degree Objective process is used to update a student’s major or other curriculum data in PNW’s student-information system.

Current Students

If you are a current student attending classes at PNW and wish to change your major, meet with your academic adviser to discuss the change of major and see if you meet the new major’s admittance requirements. Review the major declaration criteria below for the PNW college that offers the major you are interested in.

Undergraduate students can explore current PNW majors by using the What-If feature in myPNWplan. See how completed and in progress courses would apply to the degree requirements of a different major and/or minor. Find myPNWplan under the Registration tab in myPNW.

If you are eligible to declare your intended major or wish to add a minor, your current academic advisor will start the Change of Degree Objective (CODO) process for you. There are no forms for you to complete.

You can check your Academic Profile on the Academics tab in myPNW to verify that the change has been processed.

All Departments except the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management

GPA: 2.20 (including rounding of the GPA requirement from 2.15 to 2.19)
Good Academic Standing

School of Hospitality and Tourism Management

GPA: 2.0 (including rounding of the GPA requirement from 1.95 to 1.99)
Good Academic Standing

All Majors except Health Studies

Successful completion of MA 15400 or MA 15900 (or higher level math) with a “C” or better grade. Students may be enrolled in MA 15400 while admitted to the College of Engineering and Sciences.
GPA: 2.5 or higher (including rounding of the GPA requirement from 2.45 to 2.49)

Health Studies

Successful completion of MA 15300 (or higher level math) with a “C” or better grade. Students may be enrolled in MA 15300 while admitted to the College of Engineering and Sciences.
GPA: 2.5 or higher (including rounding of the GPA requirement from 2.45 to 2.49)

All Departments except the School of Education and Social Work Major

GPA: 2.0 (including rounding from 1.95 to 1.99)
Credit Hours: 9 college credits at Purdue University Northwest

Department of Behavioral Sciences – Social Work Major Only

Current Social Work Pathway student
GPA: 2.5 (including rounding from 2.45 to 2.49) and Good Academic Standing
Grades of “C+” or better in SWRK 20100 and SWRK 24000

School of Education and Counseling

Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education

GPA: 2.5 (including rounding of the GPA requirement from 2.45 to 2.49)
Elementary Education: Grades of “C” or better in ENGL 10400, ENGL 10500, and COM 11400.
Early Childhood Education: Grades of “C” or better in ENGL 10400, ENGL 10500, and COM 11400.
Transfer grades will be reviewed.

Secondary Education – Meet the specific college’s requirements for the intended discipline.

English, Foreign Language, and Social Studies are in the College of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences.
Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics are in the College of Engineering and Sciences.

Online Application Deadlines: October 1 and February 1 (Admission is granted by committee until capacity is reached.)
Courses: Minimum of 2 Science Core and 2 Liberal Arts Core with “B” (3.0) or better grade in each course.
Core GPA: Minimum 3.0 to apply (including rounding of the GPA requirement from 2.95 to 2.99)
