DESCRIPTION:Join the Center for Global Studies for an expert panel discussion on how the beliefs\, creativity\, discipline\, dedication\, innovation and values of Asian cultures and traditions have influenced the world. \nSpeakers will discuss Indian Culture’s impact on Global Society\, Advaita Philosophy and its effects on the world through Gandhi\, and Chinese Culture in the modern world. \nRegister on MyPNWLife \nThis is a CHESS Cup event. \nLocation\nPowers 130 \nThis event fulfills part of the Civics Event Pathway option for PNW’s Civics Literacy Proficiency Requirement. \n\nMeet the Panelists\nDeepa Majumdar\, D.S.Sc.\nProfessor of Philosophy \nContributions to Indian Civilization to Global Culture — Ancient and Modern \nDeepa Majumdar specializes in Neoplatonism – specifically\, Plotinus’ Enneads. She has published a book on Plotinus’ cosmology. In her current work (a book)\, she compares Plotinus’ Enneads with representative texts of Advaita Vedānta (from India). She has published essays and papers on Plato\, Plotinus\, Gandhi – as well as on topics like the pandemic. She has a forthcoming essay on war. She has also published a volume of poetry. \n\nSubbarao V. Majety\, Ph.D.\nAssistant Professor and Director of Design Studio \nIndian Advaita Philosophy in a nutshell and its effects on the world through Gandhi \nSubbarao V. Majety received his Ph.D. at the University of Pittsburgh in Industrial Engineering. His hobbies are song writing in his mother tongue and occasional poetry in English. He likes to express his views without inhibitions. He is greatly influenced by the Advaita Philosophy. \n\nJin Lu\, Ph.D.\nProfessor of French \nBeyond East and West: Chinese Culture in the Modern World \nJin Lu received her Ph.D. in French Literature from Boston College. As a trilingual writer\, she has authored a monograph on the concept of philosophe in French Enlightenment (Laval University Press\, 2005)\, served as an editor\, contributor and co-translator for a book on the images of France during the Qing dynasty (Laval University Press\, 2009) and co-authored a book (with Benoît Vermander) on intercultural dialogue (Peking University Press\, 2016). Her forthcoming book from the University of Notre Dame Press is entitled Translingual Catholics: Chinese Theologians before Vatican II.
