Meet Gayle O’Connor, Northwest Indiana McDonald’s Operators Scholarship Recipient
Leading by Example
Gayle (pictured in middle), graduated from PNW in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Fitness Management. In a “lead by example” plan she was setting for her daughters, she made the choice to take her education a step further and applied and was accepted to Purdue Northwest’s MBA program.
Donor Support Makes the Dream Possible
Last summer, when she was almost a year into the program, financial constraints, school and work demands, parental responsibilities, and volunteer efforts were asking much more of Gayle than she thought she could give.
Just when she was overwhelmed and thought the only answer was to drop out of school, she was awarded a scholarship from the Northwest Indiana McDonald’s Operators. This scholarship lessened her burden and allowed Gayle to push forward in pursuing her degree. She graduated in May with her Masters of Business Administration, is now another step closer to her career goals, and serves as a shining example of perseverance to her daughters.
Why We Partner with Purdue Northwest
“The Northwest Indiana McDonald’s Operators are proud to partner with Purdue Northwest to enhance the scholarship offerings for local students,” said Bob Mazzaro, president of NIMO and a McDonald’s restaurant owner/operator. “Many of us have roots in the same neighborhoods where we now operate restaurants. The NIMO Scholarship program is one of the ways we can give back to the people and communities we serve every day.”
The Northwest Indiana McDonald’s Operators are a group of 15 individual owner/operators with more than 50 restaurants throughout Northwest Indiana, from Whiting and Munster to Rensselaer to LaPorte. NIMO manages and facilitates all marketing, community relations, educational and philanthropic programs throughout the region, and is responsible for implementing and maintaining consistency at every McDonald’s restaurant in Northwest Indiana.
