The Anthony R. Gonzalez Endowed Scholarship
Honoring a Friend and Classmate
In 2015, two Purdue Northwest (PNW) alumni of the 2013 Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) program decided to do something special to honor their friend and classmate, Tony Gonzalez, who passed away shortly after graduation. Alumni Keith Blue and Dimitri Kourkouvis, were determined to raise funds to create an endowed scholarship in Tony’s memory.
Tony Gonzalez completed his undergraduate degree in History from PNW in 2009. His love of life and learning led him to pursue graduate school. His classmates, a group of individuals from all walks of life, still recall the stressful, but enjoyable times they spent together during those Saturday classes.
Tony’s path to college was impressive. He started selling encyclopedias door-to-door in Texas after high school graduation. He held a variety of jobs, including cleaning attics and basements, and working in advertising for The Yellow Pages. Tony was a natural salesman and earning his Master’s degree was an opportunity for Tony to move forward and succeed in his career.
In 2013, Tony passed away suddenly leaving behind his wife, Valerie, and three small children. Tony was a friend, classmate, son, brother, dad and husband.
In 2016, to commemorate his memory, The Gonzalez scholarship initiative began.
On September 13, 2017, Tony’s family, friends and former classmates gathered to celebrate the completion of the Anthony R. Gonzalez Endowed Scholarship.
Over $25,000 has been raised to create the endowed scholarship that will benefit deserving Purdue Northwest College of Business undergraduate students for years to come.
