DESCRIPTION:Join us for the CS & CIVS Distinguished Speaker Seminar presented by Professor Yang Ni. \nThe remarkable success of recent large foundation models stems from the versatility of the transformer architecture and large-scale pre-training on massive multimodal datasets. Originally introduced in natural language processing\, the attention-centric transformer design has become the dominant paradigm across domains. \nMore recently\, transformers have emerged as the backbone of modern computer vision models. However\, when high-resolution images are processed\, they are decomposed into thousands of tokens\, orders of magnitude more than typical text inputs\, causing the quadratic computational complexity. \nTo address this challenge\, current research has focused on reducing the number of image tokens participating in attention. DESCRIPTION:Purdue University Northwest Athletics will host the 12th Annual Late Night Madness event at the Hammond Fitness & Recreation Center and John Friend Court to kick off a new season of PNW Pride basketball. \nThe free event will start at 9:30 p.m. (CDT) with ESPN’s Brooke Weisbrod returning as emcee. Fans and students are encouraged to partake in a variety of activities and games\, including a Halloween costume contest\, a dance contest\, musical chairs\, and more with chances to win prizes like a brand new virtual reality system\, a scooter\, an Apple Watch\, Apple AirPods\, Nintendo Switch and big screen TV. \nThe first 500 through the door will receive an exclusive Late Night Madness t-shirt! \nFree food and beverages (while supplies last) will be available from Corporate Champions\, Pepsi\, Albanese\, Domino’s\, Culvers\, BIGGBY Coffee and Byway Brewery. Thanks to corporate champions Purdue Federal Credit Union\, Rush Physical Therapy\, Southshore Convention & Visitors Authority\, Crew Car Wash and Play it Again Sports in Merrillville for supporting Late Night Madness. \nThe event will introduce the Purdue Northwest Men’s and Women’s basketball teams\, led by Head Coaches Jordan Ashton and Jesse Ford. Teams will be introduced and compete amongst each other in a dunk contest and three-point shootout. DESCRIPTION:Update: Thank You for Your Support\nIt took us awhile to gather all the final details of the Chancellor’s Cup\, but we collected 5649 items. This was a huge amount! \nWe counted the weight of everything\, and it came to over 2 tons of food. Also an incredible amount. \nCongratulations to our three cup winners: \nOverall Faculty and Staff\nCollege of Nursing \nFaculty and Staff – Most Items Collected\nCollege of Humanities\, Education and Social Sciences \nStudent Group Award Winner\nChi Sigma IOTA \nThanks to everyone for your support of the pantry and our students! \nOriginal Post\nGet your food pantry donations ready for the 2025 Chancellor’s Challenge! \nWe are moving this challenge back to the spring semester\, where it will stay moving forward! This year’s challenge will run from January 27 through January 30. \nWe are hoping to get OVER last year’s mark of 3.5 TONS donated to the Pantry!!! \nEvery item donated has a point value from 1 to 10 points.  These points will vary from year to year depending on the needs of the food pantry. \nThe winners of the Chancellor’s Challenge will be announced at the Mane Event on Thursday\, January 30. \nWe appreciate all your support for the PNW Food Pantry! \nQuestions? Please contact Scott Iverson or Sal Cordova. \nChancellor Holford awarded the PNW Student Athlete Advisory Committee the first-place trophy in the ‘Student Organization’ category of the 2024 Chancellor’s Cup challenge. \n\nFood Items\nThis year those assigned point totals are: \n\nCereal – Full Size Boxes 10\nDry Pasta – 2 (Receive 2 bonus points if it includes pasta sauce*)\nPasta Sauce – 2 (Receive 2 bonus points if it includes dry pasta*)\nPeanut Butter – 2 (Receive 2 bonus points if it includes jelly*)\nJelly – 2 (Receive 2 bonus points if it includes peanut butter*)\nCanned Chicken or SPAM – 6\nBisquick or Generic Alternative – 6\nCanned Fruit\, Canned Vegetables or Canned soup – 4\nRice – 4\nRice Mix – 2\nOther Pantry Items\nMenstrual Products – 6\nCan Openers – 2\nAll other Items** – 1\n\n*Participants will be awarded two (2) bonus points for bringing in Dry Pasta and Pasta Sauce Together and/or Peanut Butter and Jelly together. \n**Ramen and other items that come in boxes should not be separated and will count as 1 point per box rather than 1 point per single serving. Loose ramen or other items that would normally be boxed (while appreciated) will be worth 0 points. Mac and Cheese is not considered dry pasta by our pantry and will count as 1 point. \n\nDropping Items Off\nDrop-off locations are: \n\nHammond: Student Union Library Building (SULB) 307\nWestville: Dworkin Center (DSAC) 1021\n\nEach location will either have volunteers or instructions to facilitate your drop off. \nDrop off times will be as follows from January 27 – 30: \n\nMonday through Wednesday – 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.\nThursday – 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.\n\nIf these drop off times do not work for you\, please contact Sal Cordova. \n\nCategories\nFaculty and Staff – Most Donated Items \n\nEach team must donate at least 20 of every item listed on the first page in order to be considered the overall winner.\n\nFaculty and Staff – Overall \n\nThe scoring system for the Faculty and Staff overall award will take the points accumulated for each team divided by the number of faculty and staff in each area.
