SUMMARY:Sparkshop: Supporting Students in the Moment
DESCRIPTION:Session Overview:\nWhen students open up about their struggles\, it can be difficult to know what to say or how to respond in a way that truly helps. In this session\, we will explore practical\, student-centered approaches you can use in the moment—whether a student is dealing with academic stress\, personal challenges\, or emotional overwhelm. We’ll discuss simple strategies for active listening\, validating student experiences\, and connecting them with appropriate resources\, all while maintaining healthy boundaries. Participants will leave with quick\, actionable techniques for responding with confidence\, empathy\, and clarity.  \nREGISTER FOR SPARKSHOP CONNECTION INFORMATION \nYou only need to register once for any one Sparkshop as the connection information is the same for all Sparkshops. \nAbout Sparkshops:\nSparkshops are 15 minute mini-workshops\, facilitated by CFE staff.  Sparkshops are meant to start exploration of a chosen topic with continued support from the CFE as requested. \nEach Sparkshop provides: \n\nAn introduction or re-imagined approach to an evidence-based teaching practice\, or productivity strategy\nPotential reasons faculty or staff might incorporate the practice in their course(s) or work flow\nExamples of how the practice can be implemented\nResources for further investigation of the practice\n\nLEARN MORE ABOUT SPARKSHOPS \nChange One Thing Program:\nAttending Sparkshops adds to your eligibility to receive the “Change One Thing” Certificate. \nTo earn the certificate\, participants will:✔ Attend at least three sparkshops\, workshops (e.g.\, Integrating AI Into Your Teaching sessions) or other learning opportunities offered by the Center for Faculty Excellence.✔ Implement a small but impactful change in one of their courses.✔ Submit a brief reflection on the change and its anticipated or observed impact. \nLEARN MORE ABOUT THE CHANGE ONE THING CERTIFICATE \nLocation\nVirtual – register for connection information. \nAudience\nAll Faculty
