DESCRIPTION:You are invited to submit a proposal for the 2025 Midwest SoTL Conference\, which will be held in person at Indiana University South Bend on Friday\, April 11\, 2025. The conference theme is Care\, Kindness\, and Creativity and our keynote speaker will be Dr. Cate Denial\, author of Pedagogy of Kindness. \nThe conference is accepting proposals that describe empirical studies of SoTL\, theoretical discussions of SoTL\, descriptions of best practice of teaching\, and interactive workshops on implementing best practice.  Proposals are due by 10:59 pm (CST) on Sunday\, February 2\, 2025.  See flyer or the conference website for details.   \nPNW faculty who are accepted to present at the conference will have their conference registration and mileage paid by the Center for Faculty Excellence. \nSee Midwest SoTL Conference website for more information.

DESCRIPTION:This session is part of the LEAP Indiana Virtual Professional Development Series \nTeaching Students and Not Just ‘Subjects’\nDr. Bryan Dewsbury \nREGISTER TO ATTEND! \n  \nIn this session we will focus on what teaching humans entails\, including the approaches\, curriculum decisions\, and strategies that cultivate intrinsic motivation. These strategies\, if fully engaged in\, allow us to bring out the best out of our diverse classrooms. Mechanisms for non-cognitive assessment will also be discussed. \nDr. Dewsbury is an Associate Professor of Biology and Associate Director of the STEM Transformation Institute at Florida International University. He is the Principal Investigator of the Science Education and Society (SEAS) research program\, a team blending research on the social context of teaching and learning\, faculty development of inclusive practices\, and programming to cultivate equity in education. Dr. Dewsbury is a Fellow with the John N.
