RE: Trustees’ decision regarding regional campus diplomas
Today the Board of Trustees of Purdue University reaffirmed the use of a diploma with two minor changes from the most current version. First, the current version of the diploma issued to graduates of PNW states that the degree was awarded at Purdue University Northwest. The new version simply states Purdue Northwest. The second revision adds the chancellor’s signature to the diploma.
I genuinely appreciate the candid conversations held over the past two weeks about the PNW diploma among students, faculty, staff, alumni, administration and the community. The many points of view shared and the level of engagement on this issue demonstrate the pride we all have in the education offered here at Purdue Northwest.
As a proponent of shared governance, I would like to note in particular how well this decision by the Trustees amplifies the important role of our PNW faculty in setting the unique degree requirements for students attending Purdue University Northwest. The diplomas conferred by the Purdue Trustees are granted to students of PNW who fulfill the requirements of degree curricula as determined by Purdue Northwest faculty.
Now that we have opened the conversation, I believe we can continue to build on our shared passion for excellence at PNW. Together we will further enhance our unique identity as a university that is strong, vibrant, innovative, diverse and increasingly a competitive choice for exceptional, nationally-recognized undergraduate and graduate education.
