“Hi, I am Viviana Plaza, my pronouns are she/her/hers, and I’m so excited to be a member of the CHESS Student Advisory Board! I’m currently in my last semester at PNW where I’m majoring in political science with double minors in Spanish and public policy and public administration. Purdue Northwest has allowed me to receive an exceptional education at an affordable and close-to-home institution. I’m grateful for the opportunities PNW has allowed me including enjoying events like Late Night Madness and being accepted into the Honors College. This semester, I am excited to use my position as a leader on campus to bring more awareness to any of the activities CHESS and the Honors College puts together, while enjoying the decision-making processes that go with it. At PNW, I have worked and participated in multiple organizations including the CHESS Clothing Closet, which gives free business attire to students, staff, and community members. I also work and live in the University Village as a resident assistant for the Honors College community. I handle the social media for Housing, create their newsletter, plan events for residents, and help to build a safe and inclusive environment for students. Additionally, I am the President of Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science honors society on campus. Before, I handled their social media so this transition has really brought me out of my comfort zone and shown me the responsibilities of running a student organization, which has proven to be especially difficult given the circumstances.
