The Office of Global Engagement (OGE) knows that funding an education abroad experience is often the number one concern students and their families have. That is why we are excited to share that there are numerous resources available to support students who wish to have an education abroad experience! Students may use their federal financial aid and apply for scholarships, both from PNW and otherwise, to help defray the costs associated with education abroad. There are also education abroad programs that cost less or close to what it costs to study at PNW. With early planning, students also can find creative ways to help raise money for their education abroad experience. Take some time to review the funding resources in these pages to make your dream become a reality!

External Education Abroad Scholarships
There are many scholarships for education abroad outside of PNW that students may be eligible to apply for to help defray costs associated with their PNW education abroad program. We are working on compiling a list of these scholarships, but below are a few well-known scholarships for which we can provide advising. Make sure to do your own research online for other opportunities!
- Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship: The Gilman scholarship is an excellent opportunity for students who receive a Pell grant and who are studying on a program that is at least 21 days long. OGE can provide advising and application coaching on this scholarship.
- Fund for Education Abroad Scholarships: The Fund for Education Abroad features several scholarship opportunities for study abroad programs.
Lance N. – South Korea
“Studying abroad was not only a thrilling and deeply rewarding experience, it also changed me for the better. Before I embarked on my trip abroad, I was less confident, less enthusiastic, and all around a more timid person. After my experience, I have found myself to be far more confident, which I believe is a result of me being dropped into a place outside of my comfort zone. Academically, I was exposed to differing viewpoints and methods of learning that I was able to bring back to Purdue University Northwest. Being abroad for a year could not have been possible without the help of scholarships from the Office of Global Engagement at Purdue University Northwest.”
Although you should explore your financial aid and scholarship options, the reality is that you will probably have to raise some of your own money for your education abroad experience. Our community-based funding guide was put together by past students who found success tapping into their personal and local networks to raise funds for their program. Check out our guide to help you brainstorm ideas of your own!
