Funding

With scholarships, financial aid and other resources, study abroad can be affordable! Learn how you can fund your education-abroad experience.

We know that funding education abroad is a number-one concern for students and their families. Surprisingly, some programs may cost less than a semester at PNW. Beyond that, there are resources for students looking to have an education abroad experience!

PNW Academic Unit Scholarships

Several academic units on campus have shown their commitment to supporting students participating in an education abroad program and have made scholarship funds available.  Make sure to speak with your academic advisor to learn if your department offers any financial support.  Below is a list of some of the PNW departmental scholarships of which we are aware.

External Scholarships

PNW students may be eligible for outside scholarships to defray costs for their education-abroad program. Below are a couple well-known scholarships for which we can provide advising. Make sure to do your own research online for other opportunities!

Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship
An excellent opportunity for students who receive a Pell grant and who are studying on a program that is at least 21 days long. OGE can provide advising and application coaching on this scholarship.

Fund for Education Abroad Scholarships
The Fund for Education Abroad features several scholarship opportunities for study abroad programs.

Here is a spreadsheet of additional education-abroad scholarships. We will add to this often, so please check back and let us know what scholarships you find. (Last Updated: November 2019)

Community-Based Funding

While we recommend exploring financial-aid and scholarship options, the reality is that you may have to raise some money of your own for your education-abroad experience. Our community-based funding guide was put together by past students who found success tapping into their personal and local networks to raise funds for their program!

  • STA Book Now, Pay Later Program: international airfare can be pricey, however, STA’s Book Now, Pay Later program can be helpful in locking in a good fare by paying a smaller deposit and then paying the balance off closer to your departure date once you’ve received scholarships or financial aid.  Check out their flyer to learn more. (Note: do not purchase airfare for your program until you have received official notification from PNW to do so).
