HAMMOND, Ind -- Purdue University Northwest athletics is thrilled to welcome Brooke Weisbrod to the PNW basketball airwaves as a color analyst this season. Weisbrod made her debut calling Pride games last week on JEDtv.com, joining Sam Michel who returns for another season as PNW's play-by-play commentator.
Â
Weisbrod, who joined ESPN in 2003 as a college basketball analyst, is familiar with PNW men's and women's hoops. She served as the emcee for last year's Late-Night Madness.
Â
"I'm excited to be a part of something that's local and that's passionate," Weisbrod said. "Witnessing the Late-Night Madness event in person gave me a great insight into the culture of the university, so when Rick (Costello) reached out to me and asked me to be a part of the broadcast, it was exciting, especially right now. I'm missing traveling on the road and I'm calling a lot of games from home, so I can't wait to be in a gym again getting to know the players and coaches."
Â
Weisbrod calls men's and women's basketball telecasts on ESPN networks, as well as games produced and syndicated by ESPN Regional Television (ERT). Weisbrod also covers the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship and serves as a studio analyst for ESPNU. In addition to her analyst role, she has also covered college basketball and football as a sideline reporter.
Â
Before joining ESPN, Weisbrod was most noted for playing college basketball at Coastal Carolina University, where in 2001 she was named the Big South Player of the Year, the Big South Scholar Athlete of the Year and the NCAA Woman of the Year for South Carolina.
Â
Weisbrod also lettered in softball and tennis before playing basketball professionally in Germany for the Marburg Marlins for one year.
Â
"We are excited to have Brooke Weisbrod joining the PNW Pride basketball broadcasts," athletics director
Rick Costello said. "As Sam Michel continues his outstanding work leading us in the play-by-play role, Brooke will strengthen our production as we form one of the top broadcast teams in NCAA Division II."
