Let’s talk about how to integrate social and emotional learning (SEL) strategies into our learning environments. In early childhood education we have known for decades the importance of addressing SEL needs in learning environments because the SEL strategies are linked to cognitive development, encourage student focus and motivation, improve relationships between students and teachers, and increase student confidence and success.
How can we pay more attention to students’ emotions in higher education and why is this important? This just might enhance students’ engagement in the classroom and improve social awareness (i.e., respecting others, understanding other perspectives, providing help to those who need it), motivation, and academic achievement? Join me as we explore what this might look like in a college classroom.
