Sounds/Shabda: A Celebration of International Mother Language Day

February 21, 2022 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

International Mother Language Day recognizes that languages and multilingualism can advance diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. Languages, with their complex implications for identity, communication, social integration, education and development, are of strategic importance for people and planet.

Yet, due to globalization processes, they are increasingly under threat, or disappearing altogether. When languages fade, so does the world’s rich tapestry of cultural diversity. Opportunities, traditions, memory, unique modes of thinking and expression — valuable resources for ensuring a better future — are also lost.

Join the Celebration via Zoom

Co-sponsored by PNW Department of English and World Languages, Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Ivy Tech Community College, and Indiana University Northwest Women and Gender Studies Program, the Fulbright Scholar Program, the Intersectional Feminist Alliance of PNW.
