Weekend Backpack Service Event

Celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. by helping pack and distribute weekend backpack meals!
Purdue University Northwest (PNW) has partnered with Northern Indiana Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, and the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana to support the Black K.A.R.E. Weekend Backpack program. The Weekend Backpack program is a national program of the Feeding America network to provide healthy, nutritious meals for weekends and school breaks to children and families experiencing food insecurity. The local program, organized by the Northern Indiana Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, will provide Weekend Backpack meals for 100 students attending the Frankie McCullough Academy in Gary. The program begins January 13 and will continue throughout spring 2023.
Volunteers are invited to help pack and distribute the backpack meals from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. on January 13 at McCullough Academy, 3757 W. 21st Ave., Gary, IN 46410. A news conference will be held at 11 a.m. to officially kickoff the project.
