We will provide water and snacks. \nAPPLY TO VOLUNTEER \nVolunteer Information\n\nNew Volunteers must APPLY TO VOLUNTEER at least 5 days before the event.\nCurrent Volunteers\, please let us know you’re coming so that we can contact you in case of cancellation.\n\nThe arboretum is only able to accept volunteers over the age of 13. \n\nParental consent forms are required for all minors under the age of 18. Please inquire with the office on policies regarding minors at gabisarboretum@pnw.edu.\n\nFor questions\, please email gabisarboretum@pnw.edu. \nVolunteer work days will occur every second Saturday.

SUMMARY:Late Night Hours at The Arboretum
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an after-hours experience at Gabis Arboretum! The public is welcome to come after sunset on August 11 to view the Perseid Meteor Shower and stay to meet astrophotographer Bill Suriano from midnight to 3 a.m. \nThis is an unguided event. \nVisitors can walk the prairie and stargaze. Gabis Arboretum has very little light pollution at night so it’s a great place to enjoy nighttime wildlife. Bring a flashlight if needed. We will have all the lights turned off to reduce light pollution. \nIf you need to contact a staff member while on the property at night\, please call (219) 989-8492. Regular entrance fees apply. \nEvent Policy: This program is free. Non-members must pay an arboretum admission fee of $10 per carload for entry.

SUMMARY:Perseid Meteor Shower Viewing
DESCRIPTION:Come see the annual Perseid meteor shower. Astrophotographer Bill Suriano will provide insight into why the meteor shower is an annual occurrence. He will also bring a piece of a meteor to observe. \nPeak viewing hours will be from midnight to 3 a.m. on August 12\, after the moon has set. All lights at the Arboretum will be turned off to maximize the viewing experience\, so bring a flashlight if needed. \nRegistration is not required\, but regular entrance fees apply. \nThe viewing will take place on the mounds\, past the first parking lot.
