SUMMARY:Tree Hike Series: Woodland Ecology (Sold Out!)
DESCRIPTION:Join Gabis in the Tree Hike Series\, while learning about Woodland Ecology! \nProfessor Spencer Cortwright works at Indiana University Northwest and teaches a variety of biology courses. During this hike\, you will learn about the tree assemblage of the woodland at Gabis Arboretum. Professor Cortwright will explain the history of the woodland by identifying tree species and estimating their ages. The pre-settlement landscape will also be discussed. \nGabis Arboretum will be hosting a series of tree hikes throughout the year. We plan on having one in spring\, summer\, and winter\, all focusing on different aspects of our trees. Read the individual descriptions to learn what each hike will focus on. \nThis event has sold out. \nLimited to 20 participants. Meet in first parking lot. \nPlease note that you will need to sign up for each hike independently. Signing up for one does not sign you up for the remaining events. \nProgram participation is free. Arboretum admission fees apply for non-members.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a family-friendly guided hike with John and Jo Brugos. They are avid birders who have been running the bluebird monitoring program at Gabis Arboretum for years. \nMay is a time of migration for many bird species\, so we will be looking for migratory birds as well as year-round species. \nR.S.V.P. for the Birding Hike \nPlease do not bring dogs as they make the birds nervous\, and we’ll miss the opportunity to see a variety of species. \nEvent Details\n\nLimited to 15 people.\nBinoculars are recommended.\nThe group will meet at the Depot.\n\nProgram participation is free but non-members are subject to the $10 per carload admission fee. \n
