Please dress appropriately for the weather. We will provide water and snacks. \nApply to Volunteer \nVolunteer Information \n\nNew Volunteers must APPLY TO VOLUNTEER at least 5 days before the event.\nCurrent Volunteers\, please let us know you’re coming so that we can contact you in case of cancellation.\n\nThe arboretum is only able to accept volunteers over the age of 13. \n\nParental consent forms are required for all minors under the age of 18. SUMMARY:Native Seed Collecting at Gabis Arboretum
DESCRIPTION:Join the naturalist and collect native seeds from plants in the prairie! \nValparaiso Native Plant Group invites you to join us at Gabis Arboretum to learn about native flowers and collect ripe seeds from several species of native prairie plants. \nWe will be collecting seeds to prepare for planting later at our public winter sowing event\, but there will also be an opportunity to take seeds home with you for your garden (bring your own bags and markers). \nAt 10 a.m.\, we will start at the Depot Visitor’s Center for a short presentation on the importance of native plants before hiking out into the prairie to learn how to identify seed heads and pods of several plants. \nBring gardening gloves and clippers if you have them (we will have a limited supply to borrow)\, a personal water bottle and dress appropriately for sun\, bugs and tall vegetation. \nRegister to attend \nProgram participation is free. Arboretum admission fees apply for non-members.
