DESCRIPTION:The most elite high school pitch competition in the country\, Innovate WithIN is Indiana’s annual high school pitch competition! It allows high schoolers from every region of the state a chance to pitch their entrepreneurial idea for a chance at $25\,000 and the opportunity to collaborate with world-class innovators to help turn their business from a dream into a reality. \nPurdue University Northwest (PNW) and the Society of Innovators at PNW will host the Innovate WithIN Region 6 Finals during a live event in Alumni Hall at the PNW Hammond campus on Monday\, April 18 from 1 to 5 p.m. The finals are open to the public\, and registration is free! \nRegister to Attend \nLocation\nAlumni Hall \nStudent Union and Library Building \nPNW Hammond Campus \nAbout the Event\n“Region 6 has always been a leader in producing top talent. In a day and age where we need innovators from all backgrounds\, this year’s students will have the ability to fulfill our state’s need for young innovators and entrepreneurs\,” said Don Wettrick\, founder and CEO of STARTedUP Foundation. \n“This talent has been supported by dedicated community members and teachers! Innovate WithIN continues to double in size every year largely in part of the local support and mentors like Purdue Northwest\, Society of Innovators as well as the ecosystem of so many other local entrepreneurs in Northwest Indiana\,” Wettrick added. \nEleven teams were selected from over 400 regional applicants to compete live in the Northwest Indiana Region 6 competition for a chance to win $1\,000 and participation in the state finals. DESCRIPTION:You Are Invited! \nThe Leadership Institute at Purdue Northwest hosts “Food for Thought” Lunch and Lead seminar with political reporter Mary Ann Ahern from NBC Chicago. \nPre-registration is required for the event\, which will be held via Zoom. \nRegister \nThe Leadership Institute at Purdue Northwest invites all students\, faculty\, staff and alumni to join its October Food for Thought Lunch and Lead seminar with seasoned political and religion reporter Mary Ann Ahern from NBC News-Chicago. \nAbout Mary Ann Ahern \nAhern\, a native of Michigan City\, Indiana\, where she graduated from Marquette High School has been with the NBC network since 1989. \n“Mary Ann Bergerson Ahern has never forgotten where she came from and while she has jetted around the world covering many leaders\, she is proud to be from northwest Indiana\,” stated Sheila Matias\, executive director of the Leadership Institute. “Mary Ann is known as a leader in her industry – one who has opened doors for the young journalists coming behind her. I’m looking forward to hearing her perspective from observing such a diverse collection of leaders over the years.” \nOn the political beat\, Ahern has covered political campaigns from the White House to Springfield to Chicago. She documented the transition from Mayor Richard Daley to Mayor Rahm Emanuel and traveled through the primary states in the 2008 and 2012 presidential campaign. Ahern has covered presidential election nights and presidential inaugurations from Washington\, D.C. On the religion beat\, she is recognized for her reporting from Rome on the selection of Pope Francis\, Pope Benedict’s farewell and the 2014 canonization of pontiffs John XXIII and John Paul II. \nAhern is also recognized for breaking many stories related to the Roman Catholic church. In 1991\, she was the first reporter to disclose the priest sex abuse crisis that led to the Chicago Archdiocese eventually opening its files and creating a lay review board\, a model other cities followed. Ahern has covered City Hall to Wrigley Field\, from Princess Diana’s visit to Chicago to the White House. She’s known for enterprising stories about every day people placed in extraordinary circumstances\, like the Marine who had his purple heart revoked.
