Purdue University Northwest’s student Formula Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Club is teaming up with the Hospitality & Tourism Management (HTM) Club to co-sponsor the annual auto show fundraiser from noon to 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 17, at the PNW White Lodging School of Hospitality and Tourism Management building parking lot, 2300 173rd St., Hammond.
Owners of vintage, high-performance, classic, drag-certified or auto-cross certified cars are invited to enter their vehicles to win trophies in a number of categories.
“We’d like to invite all levels of car enthusiasts to join us for a fun afternoon,” said Josh Wachowski, president of the Formula SAE Club. “The entry fee is only $10 per car and the funds support the SAE’s efforts to design and build a Formula One race car.”
Co-sponsoring the event are the students of the HTM Club, who will be cooking and serving a picnic-style menu of hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, cookies and a drink for $5 per person. HTM students view this as an opportunity to practice their cooking, event planning and food handling skills, as well as an occasion to interact with the community, talk about the HTM program, and raise funds.
The event will also feature music, a videographer to document the event, a photographer who will photograph all the vehicles entered, and an awards ceremony. The auto show is open to the public and free of charge.
