- Partnership Celebrates Third Anniversary in 2017
The Northwest Indiana McDonald’s Owners/Operators (NIMO) today announced that, in celebration of Purdue University Northwest’s annual “Day of Giving,” they are presenting a gift of $20,000 to the university. The gift will fund 18 scholarships for students ranging from incoming freshmen to participants in graduate school. This is the third straight year that NIMO has provided funds for this “Future Leaders” scholarship program.
With education serving as a key pillar in McDonald’s overarching commitment to local communities, NIMO is offering the scholarships to recognize students who exhibit a strong work ethic inside and outside the classroom. The scholarship program is available to full-time students who are Northwest Indiana residents, seek academic excellence (minimum 2.75 GPA), provide support to their communities through volunteer activities, serve in a campus organizational leadership role and are employed while pursuing their degree.
The NIMO scholarships will be awarded according to the following categories:
- Future Leaders – Ten (10) $1,000 scholarships for freshman-level students pursuing a degree in any area of study.
- Student of the Year – Seven (7) $1,000 awards to students in the Purdue University Northwest academic colleges.
- Scholar of the Year – An additional $3,000 award to one of the Student of the Year scholarship recipients.
“For Northwest Indiana McDonald’s owner/operators, education is one of our core values and we believe strongly in the power of education,” said Rod Lubeznik, NIMO Board president and Northwest Indiana McDonald’s owner/operator. “We are proud to partner with Purdue University Northwest, of our Region’s respected institutions, to help 17 individuals in Northwest Indiana achieve their scholastic goals.”
“We are extremely grateful for the leadership of the Northwest Indiana McDonald’s Operators in supporting higher education for area residents,” said Regina Biddings-Muro, PNW vice chancellor of Institutional Advancement. “These funds will provide much-needed assistance to students working to complete their degrees. We further appreciate NIMO’s ongoing partnership and participation in Purdue Northwest Day of Giving, a 24-hour opportunity for all to join in supporting PNW students.”
Northwest Indiana McDonald’s owner/operator Sam Lubeznik added, “We see the impact of education every day in our restaurants and across the Region. Supporting individuals who maintain a strong GPA and are employed while completing their degree truly exemplifies what is means to be a ‘Future Leader’.”
