For the third straight semester, the Purdue University Northwest Athletics Department has surpassed its collective grade-point average when the Fall 2017 academic report was recently released. With over 200 PNW student-athletes contributing, the Pride posted a new benchmark semester grade-point average of 3.28.
In addition, PNW Athletics had 27 of its student-athletes boast a perfect 4.0 GPA, nearly doubling its total of 14 from the Spring 2017 semester. In fact, 75 percent recorded at least a 3.0 GPA.
“Students first, athletes second! I’m so pleased with the academic excellence displayed by our student-athletes in the classroom,” said Purdue Northwest Director of Athletics Rick Costello. “A big thank you to the PNW faculty for the amazing efforts teaching and guiding our students. Our student-athletes work extremely hard to balance the demands of being involved in collegiate athletics and on behalf of the coaches and staff, I’m so proud of their awesome academic efforts.”
The Pride women’s basketball team posted the top team grade point average for the Fall 2017 semester with an impressive 3.72 GPA. Women’s tennis was next with a 3.67 followed by women’s cross country (3.62), men’s golf (3.49), men’s tennis (3.46) and softball (3.43).
In total, 12 of PNW’s 13 varsity teams carried at least a 3.0 average grade point average.
