Open house welcomes prospective and transfer students and their families to visit both campuses.
High school students, their parents, prospective transfers and others interested in learning more about Purdue educational opportunities at Purdue University Northwest’s campuses are invited to attend an upcoming open house.
PNW’s North Central campus in Westville will host an open house from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Thursday (4/7) in the Library-Student-Faculty Building.
PNW’s Calumet campus will host its open house on Saturday, April 23. The event begins at 8:30 a.m. in the campus gymnasium, located in the Fitness and Recreation Center south of 173rd Street. Individuals desiring to attend the PNW Calumet open house are encouraged to pre-register at www.pnw.edu/openhouse/.
Both open houses feature a resource fair, campus tours, opportunities to meet with academic and financial aid representatives, as well as refreshments, and are the first to be offered focusing on the recently-authorized Purdue University Northwest.
As approved by the Higher Learning Commission, Purdue University Calumet in Hammond and Purdue University North Central in Westville have unified to become Purdue University Northwest (PNW), a comprehensive regional university within the Purdue University system. PNW welcomes its first class of students this fall.
PNW students will be able to pursue their Purdue baccalaureate degree at the Calumet or North Central campuses. Students also may enroll in classes at both campuses.
Campus visit part of search process
“These open houses are intended for all high school students who are beginning or continuing the college search process,” PNW Interim Associate Director of Admissions Susan Giannini said. “This event also is designed to introduce prospective students and families to Purdue University Northwest and related academic opportunities available at PNW’s Calumet campus.”
She added that prospective students may complete and submit an admission application during the PNW Calumet open house.
Early bird attendees of the PNW Calumet open house can take a tour of the University Village student housing facility beginning at 8 a.m. A resource fair begins at 9 a.m. Subsequently, PNW academic colleges will offer departmental presentations and lab tours. Financial aid and Honors College information sessions follow.
The Calumet open house concludes with lunch, campus tours, and freshman and transfer student information sessions.
Purdue University Northwest will become Indiana’s fifth largest public university with more than 15,000 students attending its Calumet and North Central campuses.
At both PNW campuses, experiential learning will continue to be a distinctive component of the Purdue education provided. Experiential learning integrates traditional classroom and textbook learning with the applied learning that occurs in a real world environment through internships, scholarly research, design projects, service learning, cultural immersion and cooperative education.
