SUMMARY:Spotlight: Concurrent Enrollment and Passport PNW is a Win for the University
DESCRIPTION:The School of Education and Counseling is proud to present their second presentation for the Fall 2021 semester’s “Spotlight: Highlighting Faculty Research in the School of Education and Counseling” series. The presentation titled “Concurrent Enrollment and Passport PNW is a Win for the University” will be presented by Katie Bowers and Rachel Meyers. This hybrid event will be held on Wednesday\, October 13 at 4pm in CLO 239. \nAttend Via Zoom \nAbout The Presentation \nIn this presentation\, we start by reviewing concurrent enrollment student data: PNW CEP student demographics; Indiana and PNW concurrent enrollment credit hours and headcount comparisons; high school senior exit interviews; and PNW/CEP student success outcomes (i.e.\, matriculation\, retention\, GPA\, and graduation rates). Then\, we examine the newest OCEP outreach initiative\, Passport PNW\, being piloted this fall. \nPassport PNW includes academic opportunities for high school students through concurrent enrollment courses\, academic supports to help them be successful in these courses and addresses their personal growth and career exploration. Overall\, there are fourteen Passports that have been created by faculty members at PNW that are currently available to high school students. Created and supported by SoEC faculty\, the Elementary Education Passport provides students the opportunity to take concurrent enrollment courses within a context of developing a greater understanding of the overall academic journey to a baccalaureate degree. \nIntentional strategies like this show that concurrent enrollment and Passport PNW should be seen as the beginning of a lifelong educational partnership with students — a win for the university.
