HAMMOND, Ind. – The Purdue University Northwest Department of Athletics announced its student-athletes produced a cumulative team GPA of 3.43 in Spring 2021.
It's the third straight semester with a 3.40 or higher, signaling the department's best stretch of academic success in recorded school history. Bolstered by an 88% retention rate, all 13 NCAA teams logged a team GPA of 3.22 or higher in Spring 2021.
"Congratulations to our amazing student-athletes on another great semester," Rick Costello, PNW Director of Athletics said. "They have once again rewritten the record books with their third consecutive semester with a GPA of 3.40 or better. This achievement shows how successful the student-athletes were in navigating the many obstacles brought on by these uncertain times. That is a testament to their character, work ethic and positive attitude. I want to thank the coaches, academic support staff and faculty for rallying around the Pride of PNW to achieve excellence in the classroom."
Pride student-athletes extended the department's streak to 11 consecutive semesters with at least a 3.0 cumulative team GPA. The school record was recorded a year ago, 3.48 in Spring 2020, and followed with a 3.40 in Fall 2020.
The PNW tennis teams registered the highest team GPA scores for the second semester in a row. Women's Tennis led all teams with a 3.86 – a women's tennis program record – followed closely by Women's Golf which posted a 3.83. Men's Tennis led all men's programs with a 3.62 mark.
Overall, 82% of student-athletes recorded a 3.0 GPA or higher while 28 individuals earned a perfect 4.0 GPA.
