To receive VA education benefits at Purdue University Northwest (PNW), you must initially provide proof of eligibility and then submit a certification request every time you register for classes. Your academic advisor must also submit an approval form every semester verifying that the courses you registered for apply to your program of study.
To begin the process to receive VA education benefits at PNW, submit the following documents when you register for your first semester at the university:
- COE – Certificate of Eligibility (Submit this proof of eligibility that you receive from the VA)
- DD214 – Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty
To maintain your VA education benefits, you and your Academic Advisor must submit the following documents every time you register for classes beginning with your first semester at PNW:
- Veteran’s Certification Request (Veterans can fill out the online form here)
- Advisor Approval Form (Contact your Academic Advisor and ask them to submit their approval every semester after you register for classes.)

The VA Certifying Official at PNW can only certify courses that meet the degree requirements for your program of study as currently listed in the PNW Academic Catalog. The VA Certifying Official can’t certify courses a second time unless you did not successfully pass the course the first time (meaning you’re required to retake the course in order for it to count towards your degree requirements) or if you had to withdraw from the course the first time. Courses that were successfully completed whether at Purdue Northwest or at another institution and are repeated can not be certified.
If you have questions about the certification process, contact the VA Certifying Official on your home campus. If you prefer to complete the Certification Request in person, paper forms are available in the Office of the Registrar or the form can be mailed to you.
