Presenting in 2020’s virtual Days of Discovery? See the timeline and guidelines!

Timeline

March 23 to April 9, 2020: Participants prepare presentations and abstracts and submit files through Brightspace to the Office of Research.

April 9 to April 14, 2020: All presentations and abstracts are uploaded to the Days of Discovery Google Website by the Office of Research.

April 14 to May 15, 2020: Presentations are available for viewing on the Days of Discovery Google Website.

April 21, 2020: Student Presentation Awards are announced on the PNW Days of Discovery website.

Presentation Format Options

You need to submit the presentation in ONE of these formats.  For example, if you choose a poster PDF presentation, you do not need to also submit a video of the presentation.

Poster Presentation

  • Please submit your poster presentation in a .PDF or .PPT format. You may use the following resources: Poster Template 1;Poster Template 2.
  • Please include a 250 to 500-word abstract describing your project. If you have already submitted a 500 word abstract with your registration, you do not have to submit it again. If you are unsure if you have submitted an abstract, please contact us. Here is a quick resource for writing an abstract from the Purdue Writing Lab.

PowerPoint Presentation

  • Please submit a PowerPoint presentation (.ppt) along with a 250-500 abstract.   If you have already submitted a 500 word abstract with your registration, you do not have to submit it again. If you are unsure if you have submitted an abstract, please contact us. Here is a quick resource for writing an abstract from the Purdue Writing Lab.

Video and PowerPoint Presentation with Narration

  • You may submit a PowerPoint with a narration of up to 10 minutes.  For resources on creating a presentation with narration, please visit: Narration Using PowerPoint; Narration using Keynote.
  • You may submit a 10-minute video of your presentation using Kaltura.  For information on using Kaltura, please visit the following page.
  • If you wish to submit your work in a format that is different than the options indicated above (such as a YouTube video), please contact the Office of Research.

For group projects, we recommended that students work together to generate the content and the script, but to designate one person to conduct the narration and mention the group effort.

Presentation Submission Information

Please upload the presentation, abstract, videos or links to the Office of Research by April 9, 2020 (11:59 P.M.) through the Days of Discovery course in Brightspace. Each student who registered as a presenter or co-presenter, along with their mentor, was added to this Days of Discovery course.

Important Information for Group Project Presenters

For group projects, we recommend that students work together to generate the content and the script but designate one person to conduct the narration and mention the group effort.

  • Only ONE member needs to submit the presentation through Brightspace.
  • It is very important to include names of all group project members on your presentation when submitting the documents to ensure that they are given appropriate credits.

Student Research Competition and Judging Information

  • At the time of registration, you may have selected to participate in the student research competition. Winners of the competition will be selected among the participants based on their abstract, research significance paragraph, and their oral or poster presentation during the Days of Discovery.
  • Three awards (first place of $400, second place of $250, and third place of $100) will be given for each of the four categories: undergraduate oral presentation, undergraduate poster presentation, graduate oral presentation, and graduate poster presentation. Funds are applied toward the students’ financial aid account. Awards will be announced on April 21, 2020 in on the PNW Days of Discovery Website.
