A panel of Purdue University Northwest (PNW) students and their faculty mentors will discuss and share their research experiences while at PNW. They will also discuss how their mentors developed their research involvement and supported research opportunities beyond the classroom.
|Jodi Allen is a practicing Family Nurse Practitioner in the last year of the applied doctoral program to obtain her Doctorate of Nursing Practice. She is currently working on a Systematic Review to determine the best available evidence about homeless women and their experiences with health care providers to understand how this affects their future use of health care services. Her research interests include implementation of research into practice settings, particularly involving vulnerable populations. Jodi has been actively working with Purdue University Northwest’s College of Nursing to supply Sojourner Truth House, a homeless women’s day shelter in Gary, IN, with her services as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

|Lindsey Begley is a first-year student in the Marriage and Family Therapy master’s program. Her primary research interests are in relationship satisfaction in couples and mental health within the LGBT+ community. In the summer of 2019, she will be doing a poster presentation with Dr. Belous on the representation of trans* bodies in research at the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) annual conference.

|Myriam Changoluisa is a senior math major student with minor in physics and statistics. Her research interests are related to high energy physics, neural network analysis applied to minerals and machine learning. As part of her academic efforts, she researched at Fermilab in the summer of 2018. In November of 2018, she gave an oral presentation of her research at the Geological Society of America Conference, and in January of 2019 the research paper, of which she serves as coauthor, was published at the European Journal of Mineralogy.
