Jasmine Cervik (Business Management – Westville)
Becoming a published author takes guts, guidance, and patience and thanks to Professor Sarah White’s (English – Westville) Introduction to Creative Writing class (ENGL20500) Jasmine Cervik (Business Management – Westville) published a Creative Nonfiction piece entitled “Linger” in Six Hens. This literary magazine publishes first-person creative nonfiction pieces under 2,000 words and are written by women.
Professor White suggested that Jasmine submit her piece for publication and the research process began. Jasmine went to the link provided by Professor White (www.pw.org), and began sorting through the over 1,100 literary magazines. Jasmine found the most relevant publication for her piece and submitted to the literary magazine in the summer of 2016. On December 1st—five months after submitting her work—Jasmine received the email that Six Hens was interested in publishing “Linger”. Jasmine and the editor of Six Hens worked together to strengthen and refine her story. It was sent off to the copy editor for the final touches and published on December 19th, 2016.
