Called the Three Amigos for their robust spirit of collaboration and creativity, Todd, Nick and Jerry may not have the fame of Dusty (Chevy Chase), Lucky (Steve Martin) and Ned (Martin Short) from the 1986 movie hit. But they are nonetheless pioneers on the Innovation Trail that is making La Porte government more customer responsive through creative collaborations. Nominated by former Mayor Blair Milo, these three Society Members will be highlighted over the coming months. Starting with Todd Taylor who is now in his 39th year in the Water Department and has been Water Utility Superintendent for almost as many years, his story is as much about his own team whom he calls “tremendously dedicated” as it is about his own journey. He started out as a kid in La Porte who loved to ski race, and later developed a love for science leading to a biology degree with a business minor that uniquely suited him to ride herd over Indiana’s third oldest water system. Indeed, this 148-year old network has evolved into a modern system today that produces “Quality Water, Reliably Supplied, and Fairly Priced.” It soon will include a state-of-the-art meter system with a radio-based GIS communications network that senses leaks and reduces costs to customers.
