DESCRIPTION:PNW professor David Detmer will present a philosophical take on the ethics of belief and how the topic is relevant in modern-day America. \nSome philosophers\, including David Hume\, W. K. Clifford\, and Bertrand Russell\, defend evidentialism—the thesis that beliefs are unjustified if they are not adequately supported by evidence. Other philosophers\, including Blaise Pascal\, Soren Kierkegaard\, and William James\, defend faith—defined here as the voluntary choice to hold beliefs that go beyond what would be warranted by a rational appraisal of the relevant evidence. \nThis talk explores this issue\, focusing especially on its political significance in contemporary America. \nLocation\nCLO 140 \nThis event fulfills part of the Civics Event Pathway option for PNW’s Civics Literacy Proficiency Requirement.

DESCRIPTION:Pibo Marquez’s y su Afromundo is a sample of his grand project AFURAKA. The realization of this project is the highlight of his artistic career thus far. It fulfills the desire to bring together artistic and cultural manifestations that he has studied in depth for years in search of that Afro-American reality. \nHis journey has included the study\, application\, and personal teaching of the Afro-American manifestations that have taken him to different countries with roots of Afro culture such as Cuba\, Brazil\, Colombia\, Trinidad\, Colombia\, Puerto Rico\, Santo Domingo\, Panama\, Venezuela\, also in the African continent such as Mali\, Senegal\, Nigeria\, Mozambique\, Tunisia\, Morocco and others\, he has been able to understand the particularities of artistic thought in each of these regions but has never seen the possibility of building an original thought on the Afro reality as a force of unity. \nLocation\nCLO Mane Zone \n\nPibo Marquez y su Afromundo es una pequeña muestra de su gran proyecto AFURAKA es la proyección y realización del paso más alto en su carrera artística hasta ahora.
