In February 2017, in recognition of the creation of Purdue University Northwest, the university held the first Founders Day celebration. Commemorative time capsules containing photos, documents, and videos that represented the present day university were set on display for everyone to view. One of each capsule is being showcased for viewers at the Hammond and Westville campuses through July 2018 before being buried on the respective campuses.
“These time capsules are significant to highlighting the history of the institution,” said Purdue Northwest Archivist Joe Coates. “Once opened, the capsules share a glimpse of our past and demonstrate just how far our students and university have come as a whole. The hope is that they bring the past alive again for future generations.”
