First PNW player ever chosen in MLB First-Year Player Draft

DENVER – Purdue Northwest pitcher Chad Patrick was selected with the 107th pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2021 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Monday afternoon.
 
Patrick is the first PNW baseball player in school history to be selected in the MLB Draft. The Hebron, Ind. native is also the first NCAA Division II player taken in this year's draft. He was rated 226th on the MLB Top 250 Prospect List.  
Patrick capped off a four-year career at PNW with a stellar 2021 season in which he earned three All-American awards. The right-hander was the Pitcher of the Year in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. He was also named PNW's Male Athlete of the Year.

In nine starts, Patrick posted a 5-2 record with a 1.83 earned-run average, 97 strikeouts and only eight walks. He recorded a career-high 64.0 innings pitched. Among pitchers in the Midwest Region, Patrick had the lowest ERA (1.83) and WHIP (0.78) while producing the best strikeout-to-walk ratio (12.12). He recorded three shutouts and twice tied his career-high mark with 15 strikeouts this season.
