The Purdue Northwest Pride women's basketball team is set to host Play4Kay game on Thursday, February 23 when they take on Saginaw Valley State.

"Purdue Northwest is truly honored to be hosting a Play4Kay event," said Director of Athletics Rick Costello. "Play4Kay is a national cancer awareness organization and we are pleased to have them at Purdue University Northwest to help showcase this special event."

What is Play4Kay? The vision of Play4Kay came directly from Coach Kay Yow, former legendary coach at North Carolina State University. Through Play4Kay, she saw a way to bring communities together and honor cancer warriors in the fight against all cancers affecting woman. Uniting players, coaches, officials, and fans to do something for the greater good that far exceeds wins and losses in competition, the Play4Kay initiative is the largest fundraiser and plays a major part in the fight against cancer.

A key element to the Play4Kay game is celebrating female cancer survivors during the game whether before the contest or at halftime to lift up the courageous fighters.

PNW will announce their starting 5 – 5 women (Survivors, Thrivers, and Warriors) battling cancer prior to the start of the game.

At halftime, Audra Smith, VP of Play4Kay will introduce Cindy Bass and Allyson Stills where they will share their stories.

"I'm so thankful for our administration and department for supporting this initiative, " said Women's Basketball Head Coach Courtney Locke. "To honor and celebrate our first Play4Kay game with people that mean so much to PNW is extremely empowering and emotional. This game is bigger than us and I hope Feb. 23, 2023 provides education, empowerment, and love to all survivors, thrivers, and warriors."

Purdue Northwest Athletics is honored to be a part of this special moment to continue to shed light and stop the clock!

T-shirts (available for the first 300 attendees) and free pizza will be available during the game.

"We have little to or no control over what happens to us, but we have 100% control over how we we will respond." - Coach Kay Yow.

The Power of One: Every minute a woman is diagnosed with cancer. One MOTHER. One DAUGHTER. One WIFE. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is working to stop the clock! One DOLLAR. One DRUG. One LIFE.
