Purdue Northwest Announces Update for 2020 Fall Season

HAMMOND & WESTVILLE, Ind. -- With the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans in mind, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Council of Presidents voted Friday to play a conference-only schedule during the Fall 2020 sports season and evaluate the feasibility of league competition on a sport-by-sport basis (click here to view GLIAC press release). As Purdue Northwest navigates these unprecedented times, a conference-only schedule will allow PNW student-athletes additional time to return to campus for the start of classes on August 24, 2020. In August, the GLIAC Council of Presidents will reconvene to consider a return to competition.

Understanding that Purdue Northwest's final decision on the return to sports could be affected by local, state, federal, NCAA and Purdue guidelines, the Pride have taken the following steps over the past few months:
  • Established a Return to Sport Committee
  • Participated on the PNW Safe Return to Campus Task Force
  • Consulted with the PNW Senior Leadership Team
  • Consulted with GLIAC Council of Presidents, Athletic Directors and the COVID-19 Task Force to assess the conference, regional, and national landscape
  • Reviewed the NCAA guidelines on Resocialization of Collegiate Sport: Developing Standards for Practice and Competition   https://www.ncaa.org/sport-science-institute/resocialization-collegiate-sport-developing-standards-practice-and-competition
  • Reviewed NCAA Division II Regulations and Policies impacted by COVID-19 (refer to links below)

As we continue to learn about COVID-19 and modify our everyday behaviors and expectations, it is our intent to return to competition as soon as possible. We remain, however, dedicated to the health, safety and welfare of our students and campus community. Collegiate athletics is a vital part of the Purdue Northwest campus community and it remains a priority for PNW to provide student-athletes the opportunity to practice together, engage in team-building activities, and have access to campus resources designed to assist with an outstanding educational experience.  As we look to the start of the Fall semester, we will continue to re-evaluate our ever-changing surroundings to determine how and when the Pride may safely return to competition.

Until then, please stay safe.  We look forward to all being together for the start of the Fall semester.

Roar Pride!
