Softball earns program record seven All-GLIAC selections

The Purdue Northwest softball team earned a program record seven individuals selected to the 2023 All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Team. Selena Michko (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central) garnered her second-straight First-Team selection and junior pitcher Maddison Roop (Hudson, Ill./University) earned First-Team honors, while junior Jessica DeBoer (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian), senior Jocey Gault (West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison), and senior Madison Schultz (Lafayette, Ind./Faith Christian) all were selected Second-Team honorees and senior Ashley Bravo (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) and Gabby Paliska (Palos Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East (Wisconsin-Green Bay)) were honorable-mention selections to round out the all-conference award winners for the Pride.
 
Michko, a senior designated player, earned her second-straight All-GLIAC First-Team honors after another fantastic season. Michko finished the 2023 season leading the Pride in batting average (.411), hits (62), homeruns (10), and RBIs (47). Those numbers gave her career bests in hits, RBIs, batting average as well as doubles with 12, triples with two, and runs with 37. Her homeruns leads all of GLIAC while also earning Top-5 in all major hitting categories. Michko also garnered GLIAC Player of the Week honors earlier this season. Michko is only the second player in PNW softball history finish a season with over a .400 batting average and over 60 hits while also sitting second all-time in career homeruns with 24

Roop, a junior pitched, received her first ever All-GLIAC selection with First-Team honors. She led the Pride on the mound this season tallying a career-high in several categories including wins (8), strikeouts (53), saves (2), ERA (1.88), and innings pitched (100.2). Her ERA, wins, and saves put her Top-5 in the GLIAC and her ERA puts her Top-50 in all of NCAA Division II.

Schultz, a graduate infielder, earned another All-GLIAC selection adding to her incredible career with Second-Team honors. She notched 29 hits, a career-best eight doubles, career-high 24 RBIs, 26 runs, and three homeruns. She ends her Pride softball career with most games played and started (179), most career RBIs (93), most career homeruns (25), most career runs (106), Top-5 in career hits (134), Top-5 in career doubles (29), and most career walks (68). Schultz ends her GLIAC career with four All-conference selections for every year she has played for PNW softball
 
DeBoer, a junior outfielder, garnered her first career All-GLIAC selection with Second-Team honors. She tallied career marks multiple categories including hits (49), homeruns (5), team-high doubles (13), triples (2), batting average (.318), and RBIs (35). DeBoer played in the outfield for the time in her career and stepped up to make big plays and helped Pride defensively in key situations,
 
Gault, a senior infielder, earned her first career All-GLIAC selection with Second-Team honors. She recorded a career-high in hits (41), at-bats (149), doubles (10), walks (18), and runs (34). Gault also tallied three triples, five homers, and 25 RBIs while playing tremendously in the infield for the Pride and making amazing defensive stops.
 
Paliska, a junior pitcher, collected her second-straight All-GLIAC Honorable Mention selections. She notched eight wins on the mound for the Pride while tallying a 2.89 ERA, 65 strikeouts, and a career-high 89.2 innings pitched. Earning All-GLIAC Honorable Mentions as well is graduate infielder Ashley Bravo (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young). In the 2023 campaign, Bravo recorded career marks in batting average (.341), at-bats (179), hits (61), doubles (8), RBIs (28), and putouts (359). She leaves PNW softball with a program record 526 at bats and Top-5 all-time in hits (149), games played (175), games started (156), and doubles (23). Her 61 hits in a season makes her the third Pride softball player ever to do so in a single-season.
