Native Seed Collecting at Gabis Arboretum
September 27, 2025 @ 10:00 am
Join the naturalist and collect native seeds from plants in the prairie!
Valparaiso Native Plant Group invites you to join us at Gabis Arboretum to learn about native flowers and collect ripe seeds from several species of native prairie plants.
We will be collecting seeds to prepare for planting later at our public winter sowing event, but there will also be an opportunity to take seeds home with you for your garden (bring your own bags and markers).
At 10 a.m., we will start at the Depot Visitor’s Center for a short presentation on the importance of native plants before hiking out into the prairie to learn how to identify seed heads and pods of several plants.
Bring gardening gloves and clippers if you have them (we will have a limited supply to borrow), a personal water bottle and dress appropriately for sun, bugs and tall vegetation.
Program participation is free. Arboretum admission fees apply for non-members.
