Kahlo Karnival: Building Community Through the Arts

Join us our first ever Kahlo Karnival during Women’s History Month. This event is part of the university’s Building Community Through the Arts initiative and will honor the legacy of the artist through art and music.

This event is free and open to the public but requires registration for the instructor led art workshops which are limited to 15 participants per workshop. Additionally, a general admission registration is requested for food.

Rosalba Valdez, a Mexican-American musician from Chicago will provide live entertainment.

Registered guests will receive giveaways including free Kahlo Karnival t-shirts.

All are encouraged to view our digital exhibit and take part in various crafts, including creating your own flower crown hosted by our student organizations.

Pryzm Arts will offer two instructor-led painting workshops that focus on Kahlo’s work and background. Guests will leave with a small finished piece of art.

Sessions are limited to 15 guests and will fill quickly. Guests must register to reserve their seat. Session 1 will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. and Session 2 will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. A maximum number of two tickets may be reserved per person for each painting session.

Best-Dressed Frida

Come dressed in your very best Frida wear and compete for the title of best-dressed Frida! Participants will be called onto the stage during the event, and a panel of judges will choose the winner. The winner will receive a Frida gift basket.

To enter: Contestants will need to register at the check-in table between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. All contestants will be called to the stage to take place in the contest during the 6 p.m. hour.
