Purdue University Northwest Hammond Campus Fitness Center Updates

Purdue University Northwest (PNW) announced that as the campus community and the PNW Athletics programs grow, the university is making changes to the on-campus fitness center in Hammond aimed at enhancing the health, wellness, exercise and training opportunities for students, faculty and staff.
These strategic updates reflect a broader effort to enhance campus wellness and accommodate the expanding needs of the PNW campus community. PNW is currently constructing an additional campus residence hall on the Hammond campus and is launching two more varsity athletic programs, Women’s Flag Football and Women’s Ice Hockey. With increasing use from current PNW students and 22 varsity athletic teams with more than 500 student-athletes, the demand for space to exercise and train in the PNW Fitness Center continues to grow.
“Health and wellness are important components of the student, faculty and staff experience at PNW,” said Rick Costello, director of Athletics. “With a growing residential student population and the expansion of athletic teams, this transition allows Purdue Northwest to continue to prioritize the well-being of students, faculty and staff while they exercise and train. We will continue to monitor Fitness Center utilization to ensure a safe, supportive and optimal exercise and training environment.”

Beginning Sept. 2, the following changes will be implemented:
1. Extended Fitness Center Hours
The Fitness Center (FRC 123) on the Hammond campus will now offer extended operating hours to accommodate a wider range of schedules. These new hours are designed to provide more flexibility while reducing peak-time crowding to ensure a safe, accessible environment for everyone.
2. Additional Training Locations
While the athletic teams are conducting strength and conditioning exercises, additional training space (FRC 132* and 172**) will be available to provide flexibility for students to exercise Monday through Friday mornings.
