The two have previously collaborated on research sponsored by the National Science Foundation and European Research Council.

Magesh Chandramouli, professor of Computer Graphics Technology, spent three weeks during December 2025 as a U.S. Fulbright Specialist at Politecnico di Torino (Polytechnic University of Turin) in Turin, Italy.

While at his host institution, Chandramouli shared his scholarly expertise with university faculty members and students, mentoring them on applications of virtual reality and augmented reality in aerospace engineering. Chandramouli helped lead workshops that focused on digital twin technologies that create replicas of objects or systems, lending solutions to aerospace engineering through hands-on training, predictive maintenance, system diagnostics and more.

“This experience provided deeper and fresh insights into the use of extended reality technologies through my ongoing research,” said Chandramouli. “This visit also involved integrating applied AI and metaverse tools for optimal XR experience. Insights gained from VR and AR aerospace instruction can also be directly translated into PNW student curricula that improves their experiential learning, engagement and industry readiness.
