As announced to all students on April 6, Purdue University Northwest is implementing Instructional Materials Access, a powerful and convenient program designed to ensure every PNW student has affordable access to ALL required course materials you need to succeed on or before the first day of class each semester. This program will begin effective with your Fall 2023 courses.

Your PNW bill for tuition and fees for Fall 2023 will be available to you via the myPNW portal beginning July 5. Your bill will include a fee for Instructional Materials Access each semester. This charge will be a flat rate of $299 for the fall 2023 semester, $299 for the spring 2024 semester and $175 for the summer 2024 semester.

With this flat rate and convenient payment, you will have all your course materials available to you before the first day of the semester. Many course materials will be available in digital format via Brightspace; see below for more information about the delivery formats.

You can learn more details about the program at pnw.edu/instructional-access and in the FAQs below.

Option to Opt-Out of Instructional Materials Access

While PNW has chosen to include all courses in Instructional Materials Access and we believe the flat rate can save you money, you have the choice to opt-out of the program by the last date to drop a course with a refund.

For Fall 2023, this date is Sept. 18, 2023. Additional information on how to opt-out will be emailed to your student PNW email account in early July by Follett, our partner in the Instructional Materials Access program, and near the beginning of each subsequent semester. If you opt-out, your decision will be final for that semester, and you will be responsible for finding and purchasing all your required course materials on your own.

Please note that all students will be automatically enrolled in Instructional Materials Access each semester. If you determine you prefer to opt-out, you can take that action through Follett. If you feel you have opted out in error, please contact the Bursar’s office at bursar@pnw.edu or (219) 989-2560.

Digital Course Materials

With Instructional Materials Access, many course materials will be delivered in digital format through Brightspace. If you are receiving digital course materials through Instructional Materials Access, they will be automatically available in Brightspace once the course officially opens.

Physical Course Materials

If you are receiving print materials, you will receive an email near the beginning of the semester confirming that your materials are ready for pickup. To collect your course materials, please bring your Student ID to the online order pickup area at the PNW Bookstore located on the first floor of the Student Union and Library Building (SUL) in Hammond or to the Welcome Center in the Dworkin Student Services and Activities Complex (DSAC) Room 1114 in Westville.

If you drop the course on or before the last day of the DROP/ADD period for the term, you must return the print materials. To return your materials, bring them to the PNW Bookstore in SUL or to the Welcome Center in DSAC 1114.

PNW is pleased to offer this innovative, time-saving and cost-effective program to our students. If you have additional questions about the Instructional Materials Access program, please contact the PNW Bookstore at 0154mgr@follett.com or (219) 844-1081.
