As you may know, Microsoft has announced the “End Of Life” for Windows 10, with the official end date set for October 2025. In preparation for this transition, we must upgrade all existing Windows 10 systems to Windows 11. It is important to note that some older equipment may not support Windows 11 and will need to be replaced prior to this date.

Over the past year, we have been conducting and sending hardware audits across campus to identify machines that may need to be replaced due to compatibility issues with Windows 11.

Here are some important upcoming dates:

  • Users of Windows 10 workstations have been receiving notifications on their Windows desktop. This notification lets the user know if their system is either compatible with Windows 11 (and allows them to upgrade when they are ready,) or not compatible with Windows 10. Both notifications will contain a link with further instructions. (An image of what these notifications look like is attached to this email.)If you ignore these messages, your workstation may not function after October 2025! Please notify your supervisor if you are receiving these messages.

  • We have been sending out updated hardware audit reports to assist departments in this process.  The goal was to have all machines replaced or upgraded to Windows 11 by August 2025. This timeline ensures a smooth transition and minimizes any disruptions to your work.
