Simple Syllabus Is Now Available for Fall 2026 Courses

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to share that Simple Syllabus is now available in Brightspace for Fall 2026 courses.

Simple Syllabus is a Brightspace-integrated platform that streamlines syllabus creation and management while allowing instructors to manage both public-facing and student-facing content from a single syllabus. The new system provides a more efficient way than what we have done in the recent past to create, maintain, and share course syllabi while supporting accessibility and public syllabus requirements.

One of the key benefits of Simple Syllabus is that you will create and maintain your syllabus directly within the platform rather than preparing and uploading a separate syllabus document. To access Simple Syllabus, log in to Brightspace, open your Fall 2026 course, and select Syllabus from the course navigation bar. Please note that the former Syllabus area within Content has been renamed Overview and is not connected to the new Simple Syllabus tool. If you copied content from a previous course, be sure to remove any old syllabus documents from the Overview area and create your syllabus using the Syllabus tool.

To support your transition to the new platform, the Center for Faculty Excellence has developed a Simple Syllabus resource page that includes an instructor guide, frequently asked questions, and additional support materials. The CFE will also offer a virtual Simple Syllabus training session on Friday, August 14, at 9:00 a.m. and will visit college convocation meetings during the week of August 17 to provide a brief demonstration and answer questions. Please note that your posting of your syllabi is not an option.  At public institutions of higher education in Indiana, as per House Enrolled Act 1001-2025 that went into effect July 1, 2025: “A faculty member shall prepare and post on the institution’s website a syllabus for each course the faculty member is teaching.”
