Advancing AI Literacy and Workforce Readiness at PNW
Dear PNW Faculty and Staff,
Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming higher education and the workplace. To help guide Purdue University Northwest’s approach to AI adoption, innovation and responsible use, we established the AI2 Tiger Team (Artificial Intelligence x Authentic Intelligence), a cross-functional group of faculty, staff and administrators representing academic and operational areas across the university.
The AI2 Tiger Team is comprised of representatives from all the colleges, faculty, administration and the student body. The team is chaired by Alejandra Castillo and Catharine Olsen and includes Rebecca Stankowski, Mark Mabrito, Jan Hanchar, Grace Yang, James Seidler, Lily Morgan, Beth Vottero, Michael Tu, Scott Schaller, Omar Sahmoudi and student Elie Jabbour.
Over the past nine months, the team has gathered input from faculty, staff, students, peer institutions and technology partners to help shape a strategic and responsible framework for AI at PNW. Their work has informed recommendations, resources, and guidance that support teaching, learning, research and university operations. As part of these efforts, incoming freshmen now have access to Google Gemini licenses that can enhance learning and skill development. Preparing students for the future workforce is one of our highest priorities. AI is becoming an integral part of nearly every profession, and it is essential that our graduates understand how to use these tools effectively, ethically and responsibly. By providing opportunities for students to engage with AI throughout their academic journey, we are helping them develop the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in an increasingly technology-driven world.
Faculty and staff members who wish to incorporate advanced AI capabilities into their teaching, research or professional activities may request Gemini EDU or M365 Copilot licenses through the AI2 Tiger Team website. The Team continues to evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities that align with PNW’s mission and goals and will be working closely with the Faculty Senate.
