Changes to INSPIRE

Dear colleagues,
Due to funding cuts at the federal and state level, in early June the Indiana State Library let libraries across the state know that it had had to renegotiate with EBSCO the contract for the EBSCO databases included in the INSPIRE suite of databases provided to Indiana citizens and school and university libraries throughout the state. Citizens and organizations using the INSPIRE suite of databases will lose access to several of these resources beginning on July 1, 2025.
The Purdue University Northwest Library is most concerned about the replacement of Academic Search Complete and Business Source Complete with the lower tier, “Elite” versions of those products; the loss of MEDLINE with Full Text (We will continue to have access to MEDLINE through the Ovid platform and the free public interface through PubMed); and the loss of Communication & Mass Media Complete.
We will be working with EBSCO and the Academic Libraries of Indiana (ALI) consortium throughout the summer to ensure that access to these four databases for Purdue Northwest stakeholders is not permanently lost, although there may be some interruption in access to them.
We regret that these changes will result in fewer full-text academic journals being available. However, we are always happy to try to find your articles through Interlibrary Loan.
We will keep you updated about the on-going negotiations with EBSCO and we are happy to answer any questions you may have.
