CIVS Representatives Visit NLMK Facility for EAF Operations
On June 3, CIVS members Shiyu Wang (Graduate RA), Shishir Aryal (Graduate RA), Sathvika Kottapalli (Graduate RA) and Orlando Ugarte (Research Scientist) visited NLMK facility in Portage, IN to observe EAF operations. Steve Ryan, Manager of Process Technology, explained key activities performed by NLMK operators during the last EAF heat, before a down day.

CIVS Senior Research Scientist Participates at ManuFuture Event
CIVS Senior Research Scientist, John Moreland, participated in a ManuFuture event on May 14 at the Indiana Manufacturing Institute at Purdue West Lafayette. The event included speakers from various manufacturing companies, Purdue and other academic partners, and other organizations focused on advanced manufacturing technologies such as industrial applications of AI and IoT sensors.

On Friday, May 23, CIVS welcomed Rudolf Moravec of U.S. Steel, to give a seminar to CIVS students and staff and PNW College of Engineering students. Rudolf’s presentation was very well received and was followed by a productive Q&A. His presentation was titled “Theory & Application of Continuous Casting Process at U.S. Steel”.
