    Student Success Story: Qingyun Pu

    Congratulations to CIVS RA Qingyun Pu, who will receive her MSCS degree (thesis option) in December 2025. She successfully defended her thesis “Human-In-The-Loop Digital Twins for Industrial Safety and Process Understanding: Integrating Visual Analytics, Immersive Training, and LLM-Based Incident Structuring”.

    Tyamo Okosun Delivered a Keynote at PNW Order of the Engineer Ceremony

    Around 100 students and parents attended a keynote from Ty Okosun, Ph.D. at a ceremony for the PNW's Order of the Engineer on December 11. He highlighted engineering as a field defined by problem-solving, integrity, and collaboration that will have a lasting impact on society. He also encouraged new engineers to use their skills ethically to help shape a better future.

    CIVS hosted four Distinguished Speaker Seminars in the areas of AI, 3-D printing, & casting, presenting to PNW and CIVS students, faculty, and staff. The speakers were 1) Rudolf Moravec from U. S. Steel, 2) Shafkat Islam, PNW Assistant Professor of Computer Science, 3) Sumedh Sharma, PNW Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering, and 4) Yang Ni, PNW Assistant Professor of Computer Science.

    On December 3, CIVS welcomed Purdue’s Executive Vice President for Research Dan DeLaurentis, Chief Program Development Officer Lawrence Buja, Associate Vice President of Research Integrity, Compliance & Care, Research Integrity Officer Jamie Mohler, and Associate Vice President, Sponsored Program Services, Senior Intellectual Property Officer Ken Sandel. CIVS’s Journey in Smart Manufacturing and effective structure of the steel consortium SMSVC were highlighted, followed by demos and discussions of multiple CIVS & SMVC projects for the steel industry, workforce development, and safety.
