CIVS Director Delivered a Plenary Talk at GLSIAM Annual Meeting
On October 12, CIVS Director Chenn Zhou was the first plenary speaker presenting “Integration of Computational Simulation and Visualization for Industrial Applications” at the 2024 GLSIAM Annual Meeting in the CIVS Immersive Theater. The conference was organized by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at PNW on behalf of the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics.

On October 9, CIVS Associate Director for Research Tyamo Okosun gave a Keynote Presentation “Digital Transformation for Ironmaking: An Integrated Virtual Blast Furnace for Operational Guidance and Process Improvement” at the AIST Digital Transformation Forum for the Steel Industry in Pittsburgh, PA.

On October 8, 18 CIVS staff and students attended the AIST Midwest Chapter Kickoff Dinner at Avalon Manor in Merrillville. They Keynote Presentation was given by Traci Forrester, Executive Vice President, Environmental and Sustainability at Cleveland-Cliffs.

CIVS Students and Staff Tour ArcelorMittal Global R&D
On September 27, 20 CIVS students and staff had a wonderful opportunity to visit ArcelorMittal Global R&D in East Chicago organized by PNW Society of Innovation and ArcelorMittal. The event included luncheon presentation and a lab tour to showcase state-of-art laboratories and a behind-the-scenes look at how ArcelorMittal is driving innovation in the workplace.

On September 27, CIVS welcomed Dr. Doris Oke and Dr. Saurajyoti Kar from Argonne National Laboratory to be our guest speakers at the weekly CIVS Seminar held in the CIVS Immersive Theater. Drs. Oke and Kar are Energy Systems Analysts in the Energy Systems and Infrastructure Analysis division.

CIVS Staff Attend Hydrogen-based Ironmaking Project Meeting at Carnegie Mellon University
On August 21, CIVS Director Chenn Zhou, CIVS Associate Director for Research Tyamo Okosun, and CIVS Graduate Research Assistant Samuel Nielson attended the Scaling H2 DRI Year 1 Project Meeting at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. The meeting was focused on the DOE-funded project "Scaling Hydrogen-Direct Reduced Iron Pathways to Decarbonize Iron and Steelmaking."
