    CIVS Showcases Crane Simulator at U.S. Steel Family Day

    U.S. Steel Gary Works invited CIVS to their Family Day on August 16 to demonstrate the steel consortium’s latest developments. Rohit Kovvuri (CIVS Research Engineer) and Mario Herrera-Ortega (CIVS Post-Doc Research Associate) showcased the crane simulator. U.S. Steel family members learned about crane controls and got to operate a virtual overhead crane.

    CIVS Showcases at PNW New Semester Events

    CIVS staff and students enjoyed welcoming back the Purdue University Northwest community for the fall semester at the PNW Faculty & Staff Resource Fair and Westville and Hammond Welcome Rallies. CIVS offered demonstrations of projects as well as informing students and staff about CIVS's work. PNW hosts these events each year to kick-off the new semester to network and discover resources and organizations across campus.

    CIVS Participates in Semiconductor Manufacturing and Advanced Research with Twins (SMART) USA Institute

    The U.S. Department of Commerce's CHIPS for America program has awarded $285 million to Semiconductor Research Corp. to establish the Semiconductor Manufacturing and Advanced Research with Twins (SMART) USA Institute. CIVS, with proven record in developing and implementing digital twins for manufacturing, was invited to participate during the proposal stage for a national competition for the Institute. CIVS has been active in various activities as part of the team at Purdue University, which is a lead academic member of the institute.

    CIVS Senior Research Engineer Kyle Toth traveled with senior design and other CIVS student workers to U.S. Steel Gary Works to observe BOF process operations to learn what should be targeted for activities for training as part of the senior design work being performed.
