Design an Experiment for the International Space Station

Dear PNW Undergraduate Students,

Here is your opportunity to design an experiment that will be conducted aboard the International Space Station!

Purdue University Northwest is officially participating in the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP) Mission 22 to the International Space Station. A microgravity experiment designed and built by PNW undergraduate students will fly to the ISS in Summer 2027.

Undergraduate students are invited to form teams of two to five students and work with a PNW faculty mentor to develop and propose an experiment that can be conducted in microgravity.

Following an internal review, three finalist proposals will be submitted to SSEP. SSEP will select the winning proposal, and the selected student team will develop, finalize, and package its experiment during the Spring 2027 semester. The completed experiment will then be delivered to Kennedy Space Center for launch to the ISS.

Important Deadlines

• Sept. 30, 2026 – Submit a one-page letter of intent
• Nov. 9, 2026 – Submit the full proposal for internal review
• Spring 2027 – Winning team finalizes and packages the experiment
• Summer 2027 – Experiment launches to the International Space Station
