The 2020 Election – A Philosophical Perspective

March 11, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:15 pm

Dr. David Detmer will host this “Philosophy Matters” presentation.  Drawing on the resources of philosophy (especially ethics, logic, and political philosophy), this presentation offers a look at the 2020 Presidential election, focusing on the records and policy proposals of the candidates who remain in the race.

Which logical fallacies are committed most frequently by 2020 presidential candidates?

Which proposed economic, environmental, and educational policies are most defensible from the perspective of various ethical theories and political philosophies?

What are the ethics of campaigning for office?

Is everything permissible in the name of winning if you believe you will benefit the country when in office?

Ample time will be reserved for discussion so that audience members can offer their own perspectives in an entertaining and enlightening exchange.

Free and open to the public.
