Food Safety Reminder After Recent Power Outage

Dear Campus Community,
Following the recent power outage, we ask all faculty, staff and students to take precautions regarding food stored in personal and departmental refrigerators across campus.
Please Clean Out Refrigerators
Extended power interruptions can compromise food safety, even when refrigeration resumes. To help maintain a safe and sanitary environment, please inspect and remove any perishable food items that may have been affected by the outage. When in doubt, throw it out.
Please note that the contents of personal and departmental refrigerators are the responsibility of the individuals, departments, or groups that use them. Facilities Services is not responsible for monitoring, disposing of, or replacing food or other items stored in these refrigerators.
We ask that all refrigerator users:
- Review the contents of their refrigerators as soon as possible.
- Discard any food items that may no longer be safe for consumption.
- Remove expired or unwanted items.
- Clean shelves and surfaces as needed to prevent odors or contamination.
Your cooperation will help ensure a safe and healthy campus environment for everyone.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Facilities Services
